Before the holidays:
Reconcile all accounts up to date
Lodge any BAS or obligations early
Lock completed periods
Set up bank rules for regular expenses
Schedule repeating bills and invoices
During the holidays:
Check Xero once a week (10–15 minutes)
Approve and reconcile transactions
Keep receipts via the Xero app
Avoid “I’ll deal with it later” thinking
If you’re fully switching off:
Let transactions flow in
Don’t delete or ignore anything
Book a cleanup session for early January
Why this matters:
Coming back to weeks of unreconciled transactions:
Increases errors
Creates overwhelm
Delays cash flow decisions
Makes January far harder than it needs to be
